Development of Small Hydro Power Generation Technology

Small hydro power plant using discharge water from fish farm

Fish farms use seawater from the ocean to farm sea fishes like flounders, hence they are usually located along the coast. The amount of seawater used by an aquaculture company of 1,000 pyeong (3305.79m2) is about 200 tons per hour. Korea eco-friendly energy technology is currently developing a small-scale power generation system that uses the discarded seawater from fish farms to generate electricity for 24 hours.

What is hydro power generation?

It uses the seawater fish farms discharge back to the sea to generate electricity. Because every fish farm has different environment, it is necessary to design a customized hydraulic structure and impeller for each farm. If optimized, it can produce 15 ~ 150KW of electricity per hour.
